Suspension System Introduction

            The suspension is the term given to the system of springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connects a vehicle to its wheels. Suspension systems serve a dual purpose — contributing to the car's road-holding/handling and braking for good active safety and driving pleasure, and keeping vehicle occupants comfortable and reasonably well isolated from road noise, bumps, and vibrations, etc. 

            These goals are generally at odds, so the tuning of suspensions involves finding the right compromise. It is important for the suspension to keep the road wheel in contact with the road surface as much as possible because all the forces acting on the vehicle do so through the contact patches of the tires. The suspension also protects the vehicle itself and any cargo or luggage from damage and wear.


Principle of Suspension System

1.     To restrict road vibrations from being transmitted to the various components of the vehicle

2.     To protect the passengers from road shocks

3.     To maintain the stability of the vehicle in pitching and rolling

What Is Nvh ? Noise:                Noise is defined as an unpleasant or unexpected sound created by a vibrating object. Vibration:                Vibration is defined as any objectionable repetitive motion of an object, back-and-forth or up-and-down. Harshness:                Harshness is defined as an aggressive suspension feel or lack of “give” in response to a single input. Noise and Vibration Theory:                A vibrating object normally produces sound, and that sound may be an annoying noise. In the case where a vibrating body is the direct source of noise (such as combustion causing the engine to vibrate), the vibrating body or source is easy to find. In other cases, the vibrating body may generate a small vibration only. This small vibration may cause a larger vibration or noise due to the vibrating body’s contact with other parts.
